Plant a new lawn in spring or autumn to avoid the heat of summer and the cold of winter, when some lawns do not grow at all.
Seeding- if you decide to use seed make sure that the seed is spread evenly across the area based on the directions on the packet. Add some sand so you know where you have spread. Use a spreader to evenly and easily spread the seed over the area, Shindaiwa has two spreaders you can choose from.
Turf- if you are laying turf make sure to have the turf delivered as close to the area as possible and lay it as soon as possible. Keep the turf moist until it is laid. Start with the first run around the perimeter. This helps establish the lawn more quickly, particularly if the longer side is facing out and there are fewer joins, because these can dry out. Then begin from the furtherest point from the turf pile and stagger the turf like bricks in a wall. Staggering separates the joins making establishment easier and even. After each run of turf has been laid, water immediately to prevent the turf wilting. After laying and watering your lawn, use a lawn roller to consolidate the turf. Rollers press the turf into the soil creating a bond that helps turf to root. For the first month after laying your lawn, cut it high and allow it to establish.
Watering a new established lawn as much as you can given the water restrictions. If you have alternate source of water or no restrictions, water at the beginning and at the end of the day for 1 hour until the lawn is established.
