| Chrome-Plated Cylinder |
|
Outer Tube |
| Shindaiwa professional products feature hardened, chrome-plated cylinders. Under clean, ideal conditions, a Shindaiwa cylinder could last up to 4000 hours or more. |
|
Shindaiwa outer tubes on straight-shaft trimmers are extruded and mandrel drawn so there is no seam; very few competitors take this extra step in the manufacturing process. Mandrel-drawn outer tubes add strength, consistent thickness, and exceptional durability. Shindaiwa has three outer tube diameters to match the output of the unit and save additional weight – 24mm, 26mm, and 28mm. |

| Cast-In Flywheel Key vs. Woodruff Key |
|
Carburettor |
| To save costs, other manufacturers often use a
cast-in flywheel key, but the downside for the end user is imprecise ignition timing. Shindaiwa features a
machined slot on the flywheel side of the crankshaft and a separate woodruff key for precise ignition
timing and easier replacement if damaged. |
|
Depending on the application, Shindaiwa employs several different carburettor systems rather than a “one-size-fits-all” approach like other manufacturers. For example, Shindaiwa uses butterfly carburettors strictly on chain saws since saws normally run at WOT, and rotary or slide valve carburettors exclusively on trimmers for optimum fuel metering throughout the mid to high RPM ranges. |

| Steel Splined Mainshaft vs. Flexible Cable |
|
Gearcase |
| Shindaiwa uses hardened, one-piece splined steel mainshafts on all professional straight-shaft trimmers for greater load-bearing capabilities, enhanced durability, and rock-solid coupling. Other manufacturers typically use a lower-cost flexible cable, which takes less load, wears, and vibrates if not properly lubricated. Mainshaft rides on pre-lubricated bushings. No additional maintenance required. |
|
All Shindaiwa straight-shaft trimmers have a 4-bearing
gearcase and helical gears to smooth power transfer and provide longest possible life. Typically, trimmer
gearcase failures are simply due to a lack of lubrication; that's why all Shindaiwa gearcases feature an oil seal and removable purge collar for easy service. Other manufacturers do not have a removable purge collar or just have a sealed bearing, making gearcase lubrication very difficult and impractical. |

Serviceability |
Shindaiwa crankcase mating surfaces are precision
machined castings to assure flawless contact,
better control of crankshaft endplay, and a lasting airtight seal even under severe load conditions. The individual crankcase halves are so uniform that they may be purchased individually – no need to buy
expensive mating assemblies like many competitors. |

Well-conceived designs and unit construction
make Shindaiwa models easy to maintain and repair.
Because Shindaiwa consistently uses the same type of fastener, many service jobs can be performed with just a common Allen wrench, allowing for easy access to crucial maintenance points. |
